Life on Mars
11" x 14"
Oil on Canvas
This painting represents something very far away from where I am now...I wanted to use it as an escape for a little while. Listening to Counting Crows in the studio is one of my favorite things to do. I can always draw inspiration from Adam Duritz's haunting voice and introspective lyrics.
"Recovering The Satellites" by Counting Crows
Gonna get back to basics
Guess I'll start it up again
I'm falling' from the ceiling
You're falling from the sky now and then
Maybe you were shot down in pieces
Maybe I slipped in between
But we were gonna be the wildest people they ever hoped to see
Just you and me
So why'd you come home to this sleepless town
It's a lifetime commitment
Recovering the satellites
All anybody really wants to know is...
When you gonna come down
She sees shooting stars and comet tails
She's got heaven in her eyes
She says I don't need to be an angel
But I'm nothing if I'm not this high
But we only stay in orbit
For a moment of time
And then you're everybody's satellite
I wish that you were mine
So why'd you come home to this angels town
It's a lifetime decision
Recovering the satellites
Everybody really knows for sure...
That you're gonna come down

Blessed
Who made the world?
Who made the swan, and the black bear?
Who made the grasshopper?
This grasshopper, I mean-
the one who has flung herself out of the grass,
the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,
who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.
Now she snaps her wings open, and floats away.
I don't know exactly what a prayer is.
I do know how to pay attention, how to fall down
into the grass, how to kneel down in the grass,
how to be idle and blessed, how to stroll through the fields,
which is what I have been doing all day.
Tell me, what else should I have done?
Doesn't everything die at last, and too soon?
Tell me, what is it you plan to do
with your one wild and precious life?

The Sixties Show at F6 Gallery
Wow, what a party! The F6 Gallery was packed last night for the opening of their "Sixties" show, and I was so excited to be a part of it. They are a great group of people at F6, and the vibe of the show was eclectic, uninhibited, and so much fun. Here's me and my hubby in front of my wall. I had a great spot in the gallery. Getting more and more pregnant with every show, just a few more weeks to go!

Everything In Time
As I prepare myself for some big changes in the next few months, I wanted this painting to convey a changing of seasons, the passing of time, and this verse came to mind: |
God has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart.
I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and to do good in one’s lifetime; moreover, that every man who eats and drinks sees good in all his labor—it is the gift. I know that everything God does will remain forever; there is nothing to add to it and there is nothing to take from it. That which is has been already and that which will be has already been.Ecclesiastes 3, 1 - 15

Hide and Seek
what the hell is going on?
the dust has only just begun to form
crop circles in the carpet
sinking feeling
spin me round again
and rub my eyes,
this can't be happening
when busy streets a mess with people
would stop to hold their heads heavy
hide and seek
trains and sewing machines
all those years
they were here first
oily marks appear on walls
where pleasure moments hung before the takeover,
the sweeping insensitivity of this still life
hide and seek
trains and sewing machines (oh, you won't catch me around here)
blood and tears (hearts)
they were here first
Mmmm whatcha say,
Mmm that you only meant well?
well of course you did
Mmmm whatcha say,
Mmmm that it's all for the best?
of course it is
Mmmm whatcha say?
Mmmm that it's just what we need
you decided this
whatcha say?
Mmmm what did she say?
ransom notes keep falling out your mouth
mid-sweet talk, newspaper word cut outs
speak no feeling no I don't believe you
you don't care a bit,
you don't care a bit

This Woman's Work
10" x 24"
I'll Stand Outside
This Woman's Work
This Woman's Worth
Ooh, It's Hard On A Man
Now His Part Is Over
Now Starts The Craft... Of The Father
I Know You've Got A Litte Life In You Yet
I Know You've Got A Lot Of Strength Left
I Know You've Got A Little Life In You Yet
I Know You've Got A Lot Of Strength Left
I Should Be Crying But I Just Can't Let It Show,
I Should Hoping But I Can't Stop Thinking,
All The Things We Should've Said That I Never Said,
All The Things We Should Have Done That We Never Did,
All The Things We Should've Given But I Didn't,
Oh Darling Make It Go,
Make It Go Away...
Give Me These Moments,
Give Them Back To Me,
Give Me A Little Kiss,
Give Me Your Hand Baby

Selling Artwork
As excited as I am to share my art with others, when a painting sells it's sometimes a bittersweet experience to let it go because each work is such a personal expression. It makes me happy when my artwork goes to lovely people, and Roxanne of Dallas was nice enough to share a few words about her experience buying a painting and even send a pic of "Protected in Dormancy", one of the two she purchased, in its new home. Thanks so much for your support, Roxanne!

The Soda Gallery "50/50 III" Opening Reception
7 1/2 months pregnant and still painting like crazy...baby Mack is my inspiration!
The Soda Gallery's "50/50 III" Art Show opened last night. If you aren't familiar with the concept of "50/50″, the idea is to take numerous artists, create small eye-catching works of art, and sell them for only $50.00 each. This show is to encourage the idea that great art doesn't always have to cost a fortune. My paintings are top left, bottom, left, and bottom center...there is another one there too, on a different wall.
This opening coincided with the usual start time for the Bishop Arts District '1st Thursdays', and it was such a fun scene out there. All of the shops and galleries were open late and the weather was perfect to enjoy a stroll around the area. The show runs until 12/1, so come by and check it out if you are in Dallas.

Little Forest
8" x 10"
Acrylic and Watercolor on Canvas
**This painting is one of four of my works featured at The Soda Gallery's "50/50 III" Show running Nov. 5 - December 1.**
If you aren't familiar with the concept of "50/50″, the idea is to take numerous artists, create small eye-catching works of art, and sell them for only $50.00 each. This show was created three years ago to encourage the idea that great art doesn't always have to cost a fortune. This event shows art lovers and collectors alike the kinds of art being created around the country and here in Dallas. It also happens to be a great opportunity for you to start an art collection, and a chance to get a very unique gift for that 'special someone' just in time for the holidays.
This exhibit will open on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at 7pm, which is the usual start time for the Bishop Arts District '1st Thursday'.
The Soda Gallery is Located at:
408 N. Bishop Ave. Suite 101
Dallas, TX 75208

I Hope to see you there!!

Emblem of Renewal
SOLD
From "The Celtic Meaning of the Birch Tree":
Listen closely and you will detect whispers of transformation and growth in the midst of the birch groves within your soul.
The birch is highly adaptive and able to sustain harsh conditions with casual indifference. Proof of this adaptability is seen in its easy and eager ability to repopulate areas damaged by forest fires or clearings. Bright and beautiful, the birch is a pioneer, courageously taking root and starting anew to revive the landscape where no other would before.
This is a powerful metaphor for our lives. The birch asks us to philosophically go where no other will go (voluntarily or otherwise). The birch asks us to take root in new soils and light our lives with the majesty of our very presence. The birch sings to us: "Shine, take hold, express your creative expanse, light the way so that others may follow."
Paradoxically, while the birch is a brilliant symbol of renewal, it is also symbolic of stability and structure. Associated with the sun, the birch facilitates passion, energy, as well as growth.
Birch serves as a perfect igniter as it will start to burn even when damp. This makes it a prized fire starter over most other wood types. Here again, this makes for a perfect analogy. The birch asks us to serve our fellow man with a fire in our hearts. In this respect, the birch reminds us that even if our spirits are dampened by the set backs in life, we can always catch fire from the spark of passions that drive us to divinity.
